Eat…Read…Don’t…

-Over the last few days, I’ve been getting quite a few request for more video content, particularly ab related content.  I will be doing some recording this week, so you can expect some fresh videos by either the end of this week or the start of next.  As always, keep letting me know what you, the reader, would like to see from this blog.

I just finished a delicious breakfast about two minutes ago.  It’s a breakfast that I eat often and really enjoy.  So I thought I would pass along the “recipe”.

3 whole eggs (mine were organic and two days old thanks to a client of mine who raises her own chickens!)

Handful of spinach

2 strips turkey bacon (chopped)

1/4 red pepper (chopped)

1 oz cheese (I went with mozzarella)

2 pieces whole wheat toast (dry)

I like to throw the turkey bacon and peppers in a hot pan first thing.  It gives them a chance to cook while I get everything else ready.  Scramble the eggs.  Then toss in the spinach, cheese, turkey bacon and peppers with the eggs.  Make sure all the ingredients are coated with the eggs.  Spray the pan with a bit of olive oil and cook like normal scrambled eggs.  Serve with the toast.

Total calories: 570

Feel free to do away with the toast.  this would bring the calorie count to 410.

You might be thinking, “I don’t see any red peppers.”  Well that’s because I pre-cut a lot of my vegetables and store them in little Ziploc bags so they’re ready to go when I need them.  I had already opened my bag of red peppers when my ear suddenly itched.  As I lifted my hand to scratch my ear, all of my peppers fell on to the floor.  I know…I’m awesome.

-Dan John is THE MAN.  He’s been called Yoda, but I think even Yoda would find himself lacking in Dan’s presence.  I found this article to be very challenging, in a good way.  I highly recommend taking a few minutes to read it.

-The hCG diet has been getting a ton of attention lately.  I thought I would weigh-in with my thoughts on the subject.  In short-DON’T DO IT.   hCG is a hormone that is produced during pregnancy, for the purpose of pregnancy, in pregnant women, not un-pregnant women or men who (most likely are not pregnant.)  This hormone is injected into “hCG dieters” to aid in the loss of body fat.  But I guess there is a oral form of hCG that can be taken too.  Although I find a host of reasons as to why that is beyond screwed up, what really gets me is that part of the protocol is to maintain a 500 calorie (or less) diet while the hCG is being administered.  Just so you know, 500 calories isn’t enough energy for your body to maintain optimal brain function.  And no, it’s not ok because it’s “doctor recommended”.  I understand people are losing weight on this diet, but that doesn’t mean it’s a viable option.  In my opinion, this is very dangerous, unnatural and should absolutely be avoided unless there are some extreme measures that call for it.  (Being 50 pounds over weight doesn’t count).

By the way 500 calories is a tiny amount of food.  A couple examples:

Less than the breakfast I wrote about above.

OR

7 eggs

OR

2 slices of pizza

Not much for an entire day is it?

Please, please, please avoid this diet.  There are much more healthy and safer ways to lose weight.

  1. You are preachin’ to the choir! I don’t get the HCG diet! I mean SERIOUSLY. If someone cuts their cal intake to 500, why even take the shot? No duh you would lose weight (and apparently brain function) at that minimal cal intake. If people have that kind of willpower, why not focus it on eating healthy and exercising more. Not that I am a shining example of eating healthy/exercising more (I don’t have the HCG willpower) but there is no way in H-E-double-hockey-sticks you will ever see me giving myself a shot!
